It takes three AA batteries, in an easily accessible compartment that's opened with one screw. I ordered the style with the base, and was sent additional components to turn it into a wheel without the base (simply switching out the door to the battery compartment). The design allows the wheel to rotate fully on the base. It's not bulky, so it's easy to move from the car to house and back again, as I'm sure my son will want to. The audio aspect is primarily sounds such as sirens, turn signals, etc, but it says "let's go" in English. I received my order far ahead of the schedule, and did not require communication with the store. I highly recommend this toy and this store without hesitation.
