The interface is quite simple: you simply zero it while retracted, and then measure your object. There are three types: outer diameter, inner diameter, and depth. The only annoyance with these calipers is sourcing the non-standard battery. It can be found on Amazon, but nowadays I'd rather have something USB-rechargeable.
