I wasn't sure what metal it was, but ordered anyway as it didn't make sense to me to plate copper with stainless steel instead of just making SS jewelry. It actually does seem to be plated with something (and whatever is underneath) as it's shinier than other stainless steel jewelry I own. It's nice, I didn't notice the mechanism was right in the middle so I'll need to see what it looks like on the helix but probably will end up wearing it in another piercing because of that mechanism breaking the pattern.
